A study from Tel Aviv University suggests that eating a large breakfast with whey protein provides heaps of benefits for type 2 diabetes.
A group of obese and overweight type-2 diabetes were split into three groups. Each group was given a large breakfast with the same amount of calories but different types of proteins. One group consumed mostly whey protein for breakfast, the second group ate a mix of soy, tuna, and egg protein, and the third group ate a high-carb breakfast. The whey protein-rich breakfast induced the greatest satiety and reduced glucose spikes the most after meals. In fact, the group that consumed whey protein for breakfast lost the most weight - 16.7 pounds. On average, members of the group with other proteins and high-carb content lost only 13.4 pounds and 6.8 pounds, respectively. The results of the study suggest that a whey protein-rich breakfast is efficient for weight loss and blood sugar control.
