Welcome to Spring! Now that the cold wintery weather seems to have ended for good this season, it is time to enjoy the warmer temperatures and the longer days that accompany spring. The flowers and new plants that make their appearance during April have long been a symbol of renewal. In the spirit of new beginnings, April is a great month to start thinking more seriously about nutrition and wellness.

Since April is National Cancer Control month, take some time to review your daily menus. Make sure you are getting plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet, since they are an essential part of a cancer prevention plan. Fresh fruits and vegetables are full of antioxidants, which clinical studies suggest can help protect cells from damage that can lead to cancer.

With the beginning of spring, many people take advantage of the warmer weather by hosting garden parties or having a picnic at a local park. When it comes time to make decisions about the type of beverages you serve, consider the pros and cons of serving alcoholic beverages carefully. April is National Alcohol Awareness month, so think about offering wine and beer in limited quantities. Additionally, make sure a designated driver is available that can assist people who have had a bit too much to drink.

Even though many people have already had the opportunity to go to the beach, it is never too late to lose those few extra pounds so you can look great on the beach. Learn about the ways you can eat for weight loss without feeling deprived. Additionally, learn about the benefits of vitamin D that your body is making while you are basking in the springtime.
