OCTOBER / 2012

EnergyFirst Edge - October Tips!

Dear ,

The month of October is full of merrymaking activities such as Halloween, American Beer Week, and Oktoberfest. Its a festive month! We hope you enjoy yourself while always valuing and caring for your health!

Some of these festive October events often involve excessive alcohol consumption that can lead to serious health problems including liver cirrhosis and cardiovascular ailments. Thats why in this month's newsletter, we remind you why its important to moderate your alcohol intake.

October is also National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is a good opportunity to learn about the latest in breast cancer prevention and treatment. Cancer, specifically breast cancer, is one of the leading causes of death of women in the world.

Did you know the risks of breast cancer can be reduced by a healthy lifestyle and omega-3 supplements? Findings from the studies conducted in the University of Rochester School of Medicine, the University of Maryland Medical Center, and the National Cancer Center in South Korea have indicated the positive effects of omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil in reducing the risks of breast cancer and other types of cancer. This month, we share ways to reduce your breast cancer risk and how to incorporate cancer-fighting foods in your diet.

In October, the United Nations and partner organizations focus on raising public awareness of the struggle to fight hunger and malnutrition through the world by celebrating World Food Day. While many of us are fortunate enough not to have to worry about hunger, malnutrition is a prevalent problem. In this newsletter, we also share several strategies to eliminate junk foods and incorporate vitamins and healthier alternatives in your kids' every-day meals.

All this months festivities and awareness campaigns are a reminder that when it comes to good health and preventing illness, nothing compares to the protection that balanced meals and active and healthy lifestyles provide you and your family.

Healthy tidings,

Gerry Morton
