Oxidation comes with aging. Just like rust on metal, oxidation occurs inside our body as the result of the presence of free radicals – toxic substances caused by exercise, smoking, foods, alcohol, coffee, stress… in short, just by living. The build-up of free radicals is part of what ages us. The more free radicals we can remove from our body, the better off we will be. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals. They donate an electron to the free radical causing a chemical reaction that renders it harmless. Antioxidants are present in our food – especially green, leafy vegetables and fruit. Given that our foods are less potent in healthy vitamins and our lifestyles are more toxic, it is important to take supplements to boost your free-radical-removing power. The most powerful water-soluble antioxidant is Vitamin C. Because it is water soluble, it is best to ingest it throughout the day. Start with 3000 milligrams (3 grams) - 1000 mg per meal. Vitamin E is the most powerful fat-soluble vitamin. Taking it protects all of your fatty tissue and your brain. Take 400 IU per day in the morning with breakfast. Supplementation should be part of your healthy lifestyle. Our soil, our air, and our water supply no longer provide your body all the nutrients it needs. At the same time, more toxins are present.
Law #4 is more than adding Vitamin C and E to your supplement regimen. It refers to a lifestyle devoted to reducing the toxins in your life. Look for organically grown fruits and vegetables. Shop for hormone-free meats; cage-free eggs. The less you put into your body that is harmful to it, the less you will have to spend on supplementation to counter the damage and on medical bills to treat the degenerative diseases resulting from our lifestyle choices.
