Jason L - 2007 Arizona Ironman Finisher - Tells us his story!

Heart disease runs in my family. I lost my father to a major heart attack when he was only 39 years old. Not only was this a devastating, life-altering experience for me - I was scared that I too would suffer the same fate. At the age of 13 I turned into a strict vegetarian, and cut out all dairy, meats and animal products from my diet. I thought by becoming a vegetarian it would lessen the risk of heart disease - little did I know the harm I was actually doing myself at such a crucial age when I needed proper fats and proteins to grow.

In high school I played baseball and football, and also ran track and cross-country, yet I always felt lethargic. It was then I started experimenting with supplements – the wrong supplements - in hoping to gain more energy. I can honestly admit I was addicted to Ripped Fuel and other products that give you artificial energy.



I continued to neglect my nutritional needs. And the irony of it all is that I even went to college for nutrition! I constantly experimented and was my own guinea pig. I went on to compete in over 60 races – from 5k to biathlons and full marathons - by the time I was 28, all while trying to live off artificial stimulants and bagels. Before, during and after every race I felt awful despite my accomplishments. Basically, I believe I was killing myself without realizing it.

I'm a firm believer that people enter one's life for a reason. In 2006 I met Gerry Morton and it was the best thing that had ever happened to my athletic career and my health. I was drinking coffee in the morning in order to get out the door to train, and even more during the day in order to make it through work. I even drank coffee at night just to have the energy to socialize with my family and friends.

The minute I took Greenergy I felt an instant change. Within a week I was no longer craving caffeine. In just 2 short weeks I had tossed all my fake energy products out the door. I no longer had the negative thoughts I always had from experiencing the highs and lows that come with being addicted to artificial stimulants. Within 2 weeks I made up my mind up to train and compete in a marathon.

I had never experienced "natural" energy while training before Energy First. I went on to finish my marathon in 3:35 (not bad for not having raced or trained in the 5 years before that). Next, I made it my goal to compete in the Arizona Ironman, which was on April 15th 2007. I went right into a 21 week training phase for the Ironman.

I write this letter to you from my hotel room on April 16th, 2007. I finished the Arizona Ironman last night in 12 hrs. and 38 minutes. My first ever Ironman, and not only did I finish but I finished strong. I passed over 750 competitors once I got on my bike, and I'll be honest here, I could have raced another marathon at the end. Out of 2100 competitors I came in 759th.

Oh yeah, one last thing - I only have the use of one arm.
