November is American Diabetes Month!

November - Month of Diabetes

Dear ,

It’s already November! Although wintry weather is around the corner, this season gives us a reason to get outside and stay active. We are in the heart of autumn and what a great time this is to thank our heart for all its hard work. Thomas Jefferson, our third president of the United States, said "Of all exercises walking is the best." One can only wonder if he was thinking of the crisp, gentle air of a stunning, colorful autumn’s day. In any case, losing yourself in nature on a neighborhood walk will help you sneak in an extra dose of exercise. Cold weather may mean extra layers of clothing, but it doesn’t have to mean extra layers of fat.

With this month’s festivities fast approaching, you may be reminded of what you’re thankful for but also what you’re tempted by. Savory and sweet treats may be unavoidable this season, but weight gain doesn’t have to be. Keeping the portions under control will help keep your weight under control. EnergyFirst has recipes that will help you savor the wonderful foods of the season. If you’re heading to a party, prepare a spicy, autumn-inspired Apple Cinnamon Protein Shake in advance to curb your appetite and keep you feeling full. A helpful way to stay on track is to invite the one’s you’re celebrating with to join you. Share a Raspberry Rhubarb Magic with the people you’re thankful for.

On the road again? If you’re traveling this holiday, don’t forget to take your healthy habits with you. Stock up on our natural, travel-friendly packs. You’ll reach your destination feeling fully nourished and well hydrated. They’ll help you steer clear of salty and sugary snacks that make you feel sluggish.

We want to invite you to take a moment and consider an important observance in November this year, every year - American Diabetes Month. With nearly 26 million children and adults in the United States living with diabetes, and another 79 million who have prediabetes and are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes, it’s time to act. Get informed. Take action. Learn how to prevent this preventable disease.

Yours in great health,
Gerry Morton, MS
