Drug ads sell problems, but natural health is about prevention.

You’ve seen the ads, pushing bright, shiny pills in pretty colors.  “This blue pill will make your life better…oh, and here’s the list of possible lethal side effects.”

Have you noticed that drug ads only address problems once they’ve arisen?  It all goes back to the old advertising slogan that tells marketers to sell the problem, not the solution.  That’s why you turn on the TV and see things about erectile dysfunction, depression, stress, attention deficit disorder, ad nauseum.

It’s kind of depressing, really.

The new ethos is that every possible condition or state of mind is now a pathology that supposedly needs a pharmaceutical "intervention.”

The ads have been successful for the drug companies--every dollar spent on ads gains them four dollars in additional sales.  But there’s a nasty downside for the rest of us: soaring medical insurance costs, toxic side effects, and a growing conflict between doctors and patients.  It is estimated that 30% of patients are now going into clinics asking for the drugs they've seen on TV…regardless if they actually need them or not.

Up until the late 1990’s, drug ads were illegal, much like tobacco commercials on TV are now.  But then the drug and advertising industries made huge lobbying push, and the government backed down…and here we are.

Between 1996 and 2001, spending on drug ads more than tripled between.  In 2006, it hit $4 billion a year. In 1994, average Americans got seven prescriptions a year, but by 2004, it was up to 12 a year.
Most of those drugs are not necessary.  If you are proactive, you may prevent most of the symptoms that cause people to fall prey to drug industry ads

Prevention costs far less than prescriptions.
