Optimize Your Prenatal Nutrition

If you’re pregnant, congratulations!  Like most mothers-to-be, you’re probably concerned about your nutrition so that your baby has the very best start in life.

The place to start is with your OB/GYN.  Listen carefully to his or her recommendations on nutrition, weight gain and other areas.

Generally, it is recommended that you ensure daily intake of the following key nutrients:

  • Protein—both for you and for your baby
  • Folic acid and other vitamins—for general health
  • Calcium—to build strong bones
  • Micronutrients, including iron—for healthy blood

So how much of what should you eat every day?  The American Pediatric Association recommends that you consume daily:

  • 6 to 11 servings of breads and cereals
  • 3 to 5 servings of vegetables
  • 2 to 4 servings of fruits
  • 2 to 3 servings of protein/protein alternates (6-9 oz per day)
  • 2 to 3 servings of dairy
  • 8 or more large glasses of water (at least 8 ounces each, preferably at least 12 ounces or more each)
One of the very best ways to ensure you’re getting all the micronutrients you need is to supplement your pregnancy with a complete prenatal vitamin.  The EnergyFirst Prenatal Complete provides a blend of vitamins and minerals scientifically designed with the special needs of expectant mothers in mind.
